Though perhaps not as intense or personal as the feuds between past TUF coaches Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, or Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock have been, the beef between impending coaches Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber is certainly real.
Speaking with USA Today recently, Cruz explained that he and Faber don’t hate each other, but don’t get along by any means. The UFC bantamweight champ won’t be looking to ham anything up and create drama for television, but believes based on how things usually go between himself and Faber that the audience won’t be lacking for confrontation among the coaches.
“Me and Faber talk crap to each other without even intentionally trying to do so. We don’t get along,” Cruz said. “We don’t like each other. It’s the personalities that we have. Anything that happens on there isn’t going to be planned out, like ‘I cannot wait to go and talk crap to Faber.’
“It happens or it doesn’t. When we get around each other, it kind of just naturally comes out, because he kind of acts a certain way that I don’t appreciate and he feels the same about me. I guess the best way to put it is, the trash talking comes very naturally to me when it comes to Faber.”
The Ultimate Fighter 15 debuts tonight for the first time on FX, featuring a new format with live fights. Cruz and Faber will meet to dispute Cruz’s title in a rubber match upon the show’s conclusion.
