UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz plans on using his role on The Ultimate Fighter: Live as a coach to better prepare fighters for the challenges of the UFC. Cruz, who will oppose Urijah Faber on the show, will meet “The California Kid” for a third time later this year to defend his belt.
At a recent media day event, Cruz announced those that will help him coach on the show, as Phil Davis, Ross Pearson, Eric DelFierro, Shannon Slack, Wilson Reis, Lloyd Irvin, Doug Balzarin and a host of others will comprise his staff.
“My thing is to go in there and be hands-on, take it one day at a time, and give these guys respect right off the bat that all fighters want,” said Cruz, in a recent interview with MMAjunkie.com. “That’s a big reason fighters fight: to get respect.”
TUF: Live will begin with 16 elimination fights this Friday night on FX, continuing each week until the finals. Cruz and Faber will meet at UFC 148 on July 7.
