Nate Diaz Thinks Brother Nick’s MMA Retirement Is For Real

Following his controversial decision defeat to Carlos Condit at UFC 143 early last month, electrifying fighter Nick Diaz announced his retirement from mixed martial arts competition. Since then, Diaz hasn’t said much, or given any indication that he plans on returning to the cage.

To make matters worse, the mercurial welterweight tested positive for marijuana for the second time in the state of Nevada and faces a likely suspension.

Unfortunately for fans of the 209, sources very close to Diaz don’t see the 29-year-old changing his tune on professional MMA anytime soon. Speaking with Ariel Helwani for MMAFighting, Nate Diaz revealed that his brother appears content to be retired.

“Triathlon season’s starting, so he’s getting ready, getting in shape for that,” Diaz said of how his brother’s been keeping busy. “You know, concentrating on being in shape and being healthy, coaching me for my fights.

“Right now, I don’t think (he’ll come out of retirement). He’s big on, like I said, staying in shape and just being healthy right now and not worrying about it, thinking about it,” Diaz continued. “I think he’s retired, you know? He hasn’t been into this whole fighting thing for some time, you know, since everything that goes on with the funny wins and losses. For not just him — for me and people on our team. I think he’s just relaxed right now. I think he’s pretty set on his retirement though.”

You can rest easy knowing that at least the younger of the fighting Diaz brothers will remain in the spotlight for at least a little while longer, as Nate told Helwani that he hasn’t made enough money to coast on yet.
