“Strikeforce: Tate Vs. Rousey” Results

– Sarah Kaufman defeated Alexis Davis via majority decision (29-29,29-28,29-28).


Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Bristol Marunde

Round 1: Jacare tags Marunde with a straight right early on. Both fighters are feeling each other in the opening minutes. Jacare was able to get Marunde to the ground and got his back. Jacare got the hooks in, but was having difficulty flattening him out. Jacare headbutted Marunde’s shoulder, and was warned by the referee. Jacare landed punches and the referee stood them up, saying Jacare landed strikes to the back of Marunde’s head. The action resumed, and Jacare dropped Marunde and got his back again. Marunde was able to get to his feet and the fighters clinched against the cage as the round ended. scores the round 10-9 for Jacare.

Round 2: Marunde presses forward with punches, which Jacare was able to dodge. Jacare landed a big punch and several kicks, which fazed Marunde. Jacare took Marunde’s back again, but Marunde was able to scramble out and get back to his feet. Jacare continued to get the better of the stand up, nailing Marunde with knees to the body and jabs. Jacare connected with several big right hands. Jacare scored a takedown and went for a leg lock as the round ended. scores the round 10-9 for Jacare.

Round 3: Jacare opens the round by taking Marunde to the ground. Jacare landing punches and elbows from the top. Jacare pressed Marunde against the cage and got Marunde’s back. After being unable to flatten Marunde, Jacare locked in an arm triangle, forcing Marunde to tap.

Scott Smith vs. Lumumba Sayers

Round 1: A touch of gloves to start this middleweight contest, with Sayers taking control of the center of the cage. Sayers goes in and gets a takedown, working to the back of Smith and locks in a hook. Sayers lands punches to the head, looking to flatten Smith out and lock in the other hook. Sayers, however, lets go, gets to his feet and lands a big shot on Smith. Smith tries to lock in a choke, but Sayers picks him up and slams him hard to the mat. Smith unable to lock it in, and Sayers gets a choke, forcing the tap and sending Smith to his fourth consecutive loss.

Paul Daley vs. Kazuo Misaki

Round 1: Lot of feeling out early, with both fighters looking to find their range. Daley loading up the right, but decides to hold off for now. Daley with a few leg kicks here and there, but not much in terms of strong strikes to do any damage by either fighter. Misaki very hesitant to throw anything at all through the opening two minutes. Misaki catches Daley’s kick and takes him to the ground quickly, working to control Daley now. Daley fighting hard to get up, and does, eating a couple of punches on the way up. Misaki connects with a left, follows up with a big body punch. Knees and strikes to the body by Misaki, while Daley just misses a big left. Misaki with a jab and pushes Daley back. Daley up against the cage, eating more punches by Misaki. Daley seems unsure of what to do in terms of striking. Daley shoots in and gets him down, while Misaki goes for a choke to no avail. Daley lands a few big strikes to end the round.

Round 2: Daley fights off takedown attempt by Misaki with his judo skills and the two continue to work to find the right range. Daley looking a little better with his strikes so far in this round. Misaki goes for a wild right that misses, but continues to use his jab to control where Daley goes inside the cage. Daley gets the takedown, while Misaki works to gain a submission. Misaki holding the hands, keeping Daley from doing anything from the mount. Misaki works to get away, resulting in Daley gaining his back. Misaki takes control, gaining top position and moving into total control of fight. The ref orders them up with Misaki still working for something. Daley misses with some wild punches at the end.

Round 3: Daley, again, goes for the takedown and gets it, but Misaki doesn’t seem to mind working from his back and trying for submissions against “Semtex.” Misaki busted open, badly, due to a strike by Daley. The ref calls for time and brings in a doctor to look as Misaki has blood all over his upper body due to the cut above his eye that looks to be about six inches long and two inches wide. The doctor allows him to go and the fight continues with blood pouring down the face of Misaki. Daley attempts a takedown but fails and eats some knees by Misaki. Flying knee by Misaki but not much behind it. Misaki connects with a combo that rocks Daley a bit. Body kick has Daley grimace in pain, but Misaki unable to follow up. Daley with a takedown but can’t keep Misaki down with less than 50 seconds left in the round. Misaki going for lefts and rights, but doesn’t do much damage. Daley with a left and Misaki with a spinning kick to end the fight.

Kazuo Misaki defeated Paul Daley via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)

K.J. Noons vs. Josh Thomson

Round 1: Thomson with a front-kick that lands on Noons, backing him up and giving him control early. Noons, however, gets right back to his striking, avoiding a chance to go to the ground with Thomson twice. Thomson using push kicks to push Noons back, lands a big right to the face following a missed combo by Noons. Noons doing a good job changing levels but yet to really connect. Thomson with a takedown attempt that takes a little time but finally works, with Noons working towards the cage. Thomson not doing much with the takedown right now as Noons is sitting up. Noons tries to get to his feet but Thomson takes control again, working up the side of Noons’ body, taking his back with under a minute to go for a brief time. Thomson with a pair of elbows to the head and body as the clock runs out.

Round 2: Noons wants to trade blows, taunting Thomson. Head-kick misses and Thomson slips, resulting in Noons taking control. Thomson, however, works off his back and takes over, trying for a takedown against the cage. Thomson finishes and we are back to where round one ended with Thomson in control and Noons against the cage. Noons seems frustrated by what is happening, throwing his hands up in the air. Thomson content with trying to continue working for a submission and control on the ground. After a few strikes by Thomson, the ref stands them up, as the crowd cheers. Noons working his boxing, landing a nice combo. Noons with a knee to the body that backs Thomson up, following up with a body shot, as well. Thomson tries roping Noons into another ground situation, but Noons avoids it. However, Thomson goes again for the takedown and gets it with ease. Blows being exchanged as the two are on the mat to end the round.

Round 3: Noons pushing the pace, but Thomson eats a punch to get a trip in and take control of Noons. Thomson locks in a side-choke right in the middle of the cage with over four minutes to go in the round. Thomson unable to get it but floats over to the back with the choke still locked in. Thomson flattening Noons out now, still going for the choke. Noons survives a pair of deep submissions but Thomson takes the side mount, landing hammer fists to the face of Noons. Thomson in complete control, as Noons looks exhausted and has yet to get anywhere close to getting to his feet. Thomson with knees to the body to end it.

Josh Thomson defeated K.J. Noons via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Championship
Miesha Tate (c) vs. Ronda Rousey

Round 1: Blows from both, Tate landing the bigger strikes but Rousey gets the takedown and looks to go into side control. Rousey goes to the cross-side position, landing elbows to the head and working for the armbar. Tate trying to fight out of it, connecting with strikes. Tate gets out of it despite it being bent very weird, taking the back of Rousey against the cage. Tate locks in the hooks and there has been more action in the first two minutes of this fight than the co-main event between Josh Thomson and K.J. Noons. Rousey gets out, landing a strike as Tate tries to get up from the ground. Tate goes up and Rousey controls the head and shoulders, getting a trip and into control. The two are back up, trading blows in the center of the cage. Tate with a big left, Rousey with a judo hip toss and into side control. Just over a minute to go and Rousey goes to the side, taking full mount and landing a few strikes. Tate is flat and Rousey goes for an armbar once again, locking her legs across the head and pulling on the arm, bending it back and awkward again until likely breaking it as the ref holds her arm down. Tate tapped just as Rousey pulled back once again.

Ronda Rousey defeated Miesha Tate at 4:27 of round one to win the women’s bantamweight championship
