Ian McCall has been widely-regarded as the top flyweight in the world. So, it was with no surprise that the UFC brought in “Uncle Creepy” to take part in the first-ever flyweight tournament to crown a champion.
Tonight, McCall will face off with Demetrious Johnson in the first 125 pound bout inside the Octagon as part of UFC on FX: Alves vs. Kampmann. The event takes place from the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia.
“Everyone fighting at 135 and 145 has paved the way for us. Look at the fights they have been putting on. They have great champions like Dominick Cruz and Jose Aldo. Then, you have fighters like Urijah Faber and Mark Hominick who are consistently putting on great fights,” said McCall, in an exclusive interview with FiveOuncesOfPain.com. “We have so much energy and don’t need to conserve it. We have fought so hard to get to where we are at we aren’t going to do anything to jeopardize our position. We’re going in there and we are going to try and take each other’s heads off!”
The other semifinal will boast Joseph Benavidez against Yasuhiro Urushitani. The winners will meet later this year to crown a champion.
