Chael Sonnen finally got himself the rematch he wanted so badly against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, largely thanks to the fan interest that his unending stream of ridiculous trash talk generates in their rivalry.
In a recent promo spot for a t-shirt, Sonnen phoned in a few digs at the champ with the help of UFC light heavyweight Stephan Bonnar on the other end of the lens.
“Anderson Silva’s not even a fighter,” Sonnen quipped. “Anderson Silva’s a part of the sport that makes his money and his fame off of endorsements that are ill-gotten and tainted. Anderson Silva’s not a thought on my mind.
“Anderson Silva’s a fake and a phony and he’ll be remembered the same way Mike Tyson is: as a guy with a padded record who didn’t fight anybody.”
After beating down Brian Stann, then taking a close and controversial decision over Michael Bisping, Sonnen earned a rematch against the champion, which is likely to take place this summer in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
