With one swift kick, Anthony Pettis placed himself back among the contenders in the UFC’s lightweight division. Pettis caught Joe Lauzon with a kick to the head at UFC 144: Edgar vs. Henderson Saturday night, earning a first round knockout.
“It feels awesome. This is where I’m supposed to be at,” Pettis said. “I am the best lightweight in the division.”
The main event of UFC 144 features Frankie Edgar defending his title against Benson Henderson. Pettis took the WEC title from Henderson, leaving “Showtime” knowing who he wants next.
“It’s motivating (knowing I beat the fighter that is fighting for the title). I’m ready for my title shot,” Pettis said. “Hopefully, whoever comes out tonight, I get the winner.”
Pettis has now rebounded from a loss to Clay Guida to defeat Jeremy Stephens and Lauzon in back-to-back fights.
