It was revealed on tonight’s episode of UFC Tonight that former UFC middleweight contender Nate Marquardt has signed with Strikeforce, and will make his debut with the promotion later this year.
Marquardt was fired from the UFC last June after being removed from a main event fight against Rick Story after failing his medicals. At that time, it seemed as if his days under the Zuffa banner were history.
“He’s cut, he’s done with the UFC,” UFC President Dana White stated after Marquardt was pulled from the fight. “I’m disgusted with him, and he has no business fighting in the UFC.”
While Marquardt is not returning to the UFC, he will be under the Zuffa banner, as Strikeforce was purchased by Zuffa, LLC last March.
It was further revealed on tonight’s episode that Marquardt will likely make his Strikeforce debut against Tyron Woodley for the vacant Strikeforce welterweight championship.
