The UFC aired its first live event on Fuel TV tonight with UFC on Fuel TV: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger, a fight card which delivered a host of exciting bouts. As always, the superlative fighters from the card were awarded fight night bonuses for their efforts; tonight, the awards came in the amount of $50,000.
Main event fighters Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez took home the Fight of the Night bonus for their three round welterweight war. Ellenberger took it to Sanchez hard for the majority of three rounds, provoking Sanchez enough for The Dream to come back with a late surge and batter The Juggernaut. Ellenberger popped to his feet before the final bell and fired back against Sanchez, making fans wish this one were a five rounder. Ellenberger took home the unanimous decision win when all was said and done.
Seasoned bantamweight Ivan Menjivar was awarded the Submission of the Night bonus for his comeback victory over John Albert. Albert was damaging Menjivar on the feet and looked to have the fight won as he dropped for a guillotine. Menjivar survived and reversed, taking Albert’s back and submitting him with a rear naked choke, channeling Japanese legend Kazushi Sakuraba in the process.
Finally, heavyweight bruiser Stipe Miocic was given Knockout of the Night for battering Philip De Fries with punches en route to a first round KO victory, his second straight in the Octagon.
