Fabricio Werdum made a triumphant return to the Octagon Saturday night, earning a decision victory over Roy Nelson in the co-main event of UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit. Werdum confirmed what he said in the post-fight interview to Tatame.com recently, saying he hopes to be back in action this June at the UFC card in Brazil.
“I hope I can fight in June in Brazil. I get there (Monday) to be part of (The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil), but I won’t stop training, even because the whole team will be together there,” Werdum said. “God bless me, UFC will give me the chance to bring this joy to people in Brazil.”
As for a possible opponent, Werdum declined to call anyone out, but mentioned Frank Mir as a strong candidate, saying, “If it’s Frank Mir, excellent. If it’s not, it’s ok. I just wanna show I’m in the Top-10 of the division.”
Werdum’s previous stint in the UFC ended with a knockout loss to current UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos. He entered Strikeforce, defeated Fedor Emelianenko, and was part of the heavyweight grand prix before being eliminated by UFC No. 1 contender Alistair Overeem.
