UFC 143: Josh Koscheck Vs. Mike Pierce

Round 1: Koscheck denies the glove touch attempt by Pierce. Pierce corners Koscheck against the cage and quickly shoots for the takedown, battling with Koscheck against the fence now. Pierce leaning on Koscheck hard; both men getting in some gut punches. Pierce working Koscheck’s legs with knees. Good elbow by Koscheck, but Pierce returns with a hard uppercut and right straight that land flush. Pierce putting the pressure on Koscheck, but Koscheck presses him into the cage briefly. Koscheck is warned for grabbing the shorts shortly before Pierce breaks free. Pierce working a nice jab. He catches Koscheck with a right and Koscheck returns with another. Pierce walking after Koscheck, nailing him with a stiff jab. Koscheck tries for a head kick that Pierce blocks. Koscheck trying to time Pierce; Pierce snatches a single and lifts Koscheck’s leg up high, but Kos defends and they stay clinched until the bell.

Round 2: Pierce lands a good right and goes for a takedown. Koscheck defending, but Pierce keeping him pinned against the cage. Koscheck blowing out his nose after taking a short shot inside. Kos gets off the cage, but Pierce stays on him and lands a nice punch combo on the break. Solid jab by Pierce. Koscheck seems a bit surprised that Pierce is doing as well as he is. Pierce tagging Koscheck with a good jab, drawing blood from his nose. Pierce is bleeding from a cut on the top of his head. Koscheck tries for a knee in the clinch that doesn’t connect. Pierce bulls him into the cage. Joe Rogan reveals that a headbutt caused the cut on Pierce’s head. Pierce backs off and lands a pair of nice shots; Koscheck hets in one of his own. Herb Dean gives Koscheck a warning to keep his hands closed and fingers away from Pierce’s eyes. Koscheck shoots for and gets the takedown, putting Pierce down against the fence. Pierce trying to squirm away. Thirty seconds to go and Dean warns Koscheck to work. Pierce gets to his feet and tags Koscheck with a right. Koscheck continually looking at the clock, gets hit with a pair before the bell.

Dean warns Koscheck again to watch his fingers. “You’ve been doing it all night.”

Round 3: Pierce with a right hand over the top. Koscheck mostly using his left as a measuring stick for his right hand, giving Pierce plenty of warning for the shot. Pierce hits a takedown, but Koscheck gets up and turns Pierce into the cage. Koscheck fighting for the takedown now himself, trying to get those points back, but Pierce defends. Koscheck lands a good elbow on the break. Koscheck putting some hands on Pierce now, but Pierce coming right back at him with dirty boxing from the clinch. A good knee for Pierce before they break. Two and a half to go. Pierce with a good lead left hook. Kos shoots for the takedown; Pierce is defending well with his back to the cage. Dean separates them prematurely and they reset in the center. And finally, Koscheck gets that poke he wanted, getting his left hand in Pierce’s right eye. Dean gives him his last warning and tells him to keep his hands closed. Pierce still landing well as they reset. Koscheck gets off a multi-punch combo. Thirty seconds to go and Koscheck hits a power double, getting Pierce down against the cage. Twenty to go. Dean warning them to work. Pierce standing as Koscheck looks to take his back. Pierce lands a hard spinning elbow as he breaks away.

The crowd boos loudly and Koscheck flips them off. Koscheck admits that the fight was harder than he thought it would be. Having a hard time getting in his post-fight speech over the chorus of boos.
