Chael Sonnen has moved his way into the No. 1 contender spot in the UFC’s middleweight division thanks to wins over Brian Stann and Michael Bisping. Sonnen, ever the outspoken fighter, talked with The Telegraph about UFC 143’s main event, which features Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit battling for the interim UFC welterweight title.
“The Diaz-Condit fight is such a good fight. It will go down as one of the best fights ever,” Sonnen said. “First, Diaz is such fun to watch, and he always delivers. But, so does Condit. Condit is awesome. He is the one guy I can think of besides Georges St-Pierre who can keep up with the conditioning that Diaz has.”
Sonnen went on to add, “People really want to see the fight, but it isn’t evoking emotion in people, because this was originally Georges’ fight. But rest assured they are both going to be big stars after Saturday. But what we do have now is a great, great fight.”
Sonnen, who picked Condit to win, is likely to face Anderson Silva later this summer in a bout for the UFC middleweight title. Sonnen was defeating Silva nearly two years ago now before being submitted in the fifth round.
