According to a report by MMAWeekly.com, the scheduled George Sotiropoulos-Takanori Gomi fight for UFC 144: Edgar vs. Henderson is off due to an injury suffered by Sotiropoulos. In place of the Australian fighter will be Eiji Mitsuoka.
UFC 144 takes place February 26 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. In the main event, Frankie Edgar defends his UFC lightweight title against Benson Henderson.
Mitsuoka, 36-year-old veteran, will be making his UFC debut in his native country. Mitsuoka is 18-7-2 in his career, including wins over the likes of Gleison Tibau, Joachim Hansen and Brian Cobb.
Gomi (32-8) will be looking to snap out of a two-fight losing skid when he competes in his native country for the first time since 2009. He is 1-3 in his last four, including losses to Nate Diaz, Clay Guida and Kenny Florian.
