UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will likely find out his next contender this Saturday, as Rashad Evans takes on Phil Davis in the main event of UFC on FOX 2. Evans, barring a loss or serious injury, would be the man to oppose Jones at UFC 145 in April, according to “Bones” in an interview with MMAjunkie.com.
Jones told the site that he’s “hearing rumors” that he would be the one to headline the April 21 event from Atlanta. If Evans were to fall this weekend, either Dan Henderson or Davis could become the No. 1 contender.
“Bones” last fought in December, defeating Lyoto Machida for his fourth win in 2011. Jones also topped Ryan Bader, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson over the last 12 months.
A bout between Jones and Evans has been planned multiple times, as the two former training partners are now bitter enemies. Injuries and timing have kept them from squaring off inside the Octagon.
