Jon Jones Hoping Rival Rashad Evans Beats Phil Davis

Though Rashad Evans is currently focusing more on his impending fight with rising prospect Phil Davis – which is itself growing in intensity – than his simmering feud with arch-rival Jon Jones, the champion is keeping very close tabs on his former training partner.

Jones, crowned the UFC light heavyweight champ this past summer, has been nothing short of spectacular during his title run, having knocked off Mauricio “Shogun” Rua to win the belt, “Rampage” Jackson and Lyoto Machida to defend it. The 24-year-old has been slated to do battle with his nemesis on several occasions, with each meeting ultimately getting cancelled due to injury incurred by one party or the other. Now, once again, Evans is up for a shot at Jones’ belt, he just has to get through Davis first – which Jonny Bones believes is a feat Suga can pull off.

“I’m picking Rashad Evans,” Jones said over the weekend (props to MMAMania). “I’m in his corner. I want to fight Rashad. He’s the antagonist of my career. There’s no just pumping up pay per views when it comes to me and Rashad. Everything about us disliking each other is true. After we fight each other it’ll all be clear and he can go have a seat somewhere.”

Having competed four times last year, Jones was expected to take a considerable break from training and fighting going into 2012. Apparently, the champ has been getting bored and has told UFC president Dana White that he’s looking to get back in the cage to face the winner of Evans-Davis by springtime.
