Earlier in the day, Jorge Rivera announced that his last match inside the Octagon would take place against Eric Schafer at UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller. Well, if the retirement holds up, Rivera will have exited MMA a winner, having scored a TKO victory over Schafer.
Rivera’s career record stands at 20-9, including 8-7 mark in the UFC. Since 2009, Rivera has won four of his bouts, including three by TKO.
“It’s been a real nice trip,” Rivera said. “I’m extremely thankful to all the people that have been good to me.”
Rivera, 39 years old, cited family time as one of the main decisions for his retirement. In 2008, Rivera lost one of his three daughters, Janessa Marie, at the age of 17. She passed away from an unexpected reaction to medication that she took. Rivera also has a son.
