UFC president Dana White has revealed a significant switch to the UFC on Fox 2: Evans vs. Davis lineup, as Michael Bisping will now be facing Chael Sonnen, with Mark Muñoz having suffered an injury.
Per the UFC pres’ Twitter:
Munoz is injured and out of the FOX fight! Now it’s Chael Sonnen vs Mike Bisping jan 28th and the winner will fight Anderson for the title.
Muñoz and Sonnen were initially expected to square off for a shot at Anderson Silva’s middleweight title, with Bisping and Demian Maia slated to do battle in the third main card fight. No word yet as to who, if anyone, will be stepping up to take on Maia.
Riding a four fight winning streak since losing a close decision to Wanderlei Silva in early 2010, Michael “The Count” Bisping is one of the most highly ranked fighters to yet come up for a title shot. 22-3 as a pro, his only losses to Silva, Dan Henderson and Rashad Evans (at light heavyweight), Bisping now has the title shot he’s long sought after within reach.
After tearing through Brian Stann to rebound from a stinging loss to Anderson Silva and a subsequent yearlong suspension, Chael Sonnen is back in the hunt for the title. The smack-talking Oregonian is widely believed to be the number one contender in the division, but he’ll have to get past Bisping now to prove it.
UFC on Fox 2 goes down on January 28 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
