UFC President Dana White announced at last night’s UFC 142 post-fight press conference that the organization has cut ties with Anthony Johnson following his loss to Vitor Belfort.
Johnson missed the 185 lb. target weight for the fight by twelve pounds, tipping the scales at 197lbs. It was the third time that Johnson had missed weight in the UFC, despite moving up a weight class for yesterday’s tilt.
“This is the worst weight-cutting disaster he’s ever had,” said White (props to USA Today for the transcription). “Almost ruins the co-main event here in Brazil. … The question everybody wants to know is, ‘Is he gone?’ Yes, he is. Three strikes and you’re out.”
Johnson had to forfeit twenty percent of his purse to Belfort, and knew going into the fight that his job was on the line.
“His job is on the line,” White told MMAJunkie.com before the fight. “His job is absolutely on the line, win or lose.”
