Mendes makes his way to the cage to the strains of “Paradise City” by Guns ‘n’ Roses. Aldo comes out nodding and high-stepping to “Run this Town,” by Rihanna and Jay-Z, as usual. Mario Yamasaki will be the third man in the cage for this featherweight championship match.
Round 1: They touch gloves, with Mendes taking the center. Mendes with an inside leg kick. Mendes with a lot of quick feints, mostly on throwing the inside leg kick. Aldo with a leg kick of his own that lands much harder. Aldo starting to go to work leg kicks. He deftly sprawls a takedown. Aldo lands a mean leg kick and then avoids Mendes’ counter assault. Aldo gets hit low but waves the fight on. Aldo cracks Mendes with a hard uppercut. Mendes shoots for a deep single but Aldo is having none of it. Aldo with another leg kick. Mendes fighting hard for the takedown, but Aldo defends with ease. He sticks MEndes with a hard jab. Good leg kick by Mendes though. Aldo lunges in with a leg kick and Mendes grabs hold of him. He tries to slam Aldo to the mat twice, but can’t hold him down. Mendes is hanging onto Aldo while he throws backward elbows. Aldo shakes free with under ten seconds to go, spins around and nails Mendes with a hard knee that sets Mendes straight and to the mat. Aldo goes for the finish and lands a few punches, but it’s already over, Mendes is out.
Aldo runs out of the cage and jumps into the crowd, celebrating with his joyous Brazilian fans, fighting against the security guards trying to keep him in the cage.
