Mario Yamasaki will oversee this welterweight tilt.
Round 1: Both men start out patient, Silva working from the outside. Silva throws a punch and then lands a hard knee to the body that sits Prater down. As Prater feebly works for the takedown, Silva blasts Prater with hammerfists to the side of the head. Prater goes out and Yamasaki calls it.
Apparently, Yamasaki thinks some of the shots Silva landed were illegal and has declared Prater the winner via DQ.
Carlo Prater defeated Erick Silva via disqualification (illegal strikes to the back of the head) at :29 of round 1
Joe Rogan respectfully takes Yamasaki to task for making the odd call, saying that he thinks Yamasaki made a mistake while playing a replay that clearly shows Silva earning a fair TKO victory. Yamasaki won’t say that he made a mistake, offering only that he has to make split-second calls for an explanation.
Very unfortunate for Silva, who should have recorded his second UFC victory here in Rio. Silva apologizes if he didn’t “present himself well,” but says he’ll still walk away feeling like a winner.
