UFC 142: Michihiro Omigawa Vs. Yuri Alcantara

Round 1: They touch gloves and Alcantara lands a hard knee to the body right away. Alcantara catches Omigawa with a stiff left hand. Omigawa moves in and lands a left. He eats a right hand while going for a spinning back fist. Alcantara lands a pair of stiff shots. Alcantara clearly has Omigawa’s attention here early on, as he’s keeping him on the end of his punches. Alcantara with another hard left straight. Alcantara lands a hard knee as Omigawa lunges in. Alcantara drops Omigawa with a hard left. Omigawa recovering well, trying to grab hold of Alcantara. Alcantara takes Omigawa’s back in a scramble and starts to pound away. Omigawa just stands up and shakes him off, landing on top of Alcantara. Omigawa passes to half guard, but Alcantara recovers full guard immediately. Alcantara doing well to prevent most of Omigawa’s damage from the top. At the very last second, Alcantara rolls for an armbar, cranking away until the bell.

A replay shows what looks to be Omigawa’s left arm dislocating during the sub, but Omigawa never tapped so the fight goes on.

Round 2: Alcantara fires off a head kick right away, then a knee and right hand to follow. Omigawa looking none the worse for the wear, throwing his left hand as his first strike. Omigawa gets tagged again and drops to the mat. Alcantara follows him, but even dazed Omigawa is difficult to pin down or improve position on. He’s constantly moving and making it hard for Alcantara to be offensive. Omigawa goes for a leg and Alcantara takes the opportunity to step into mount. He takes Omigawa’s back as he rolls. Omigawa making it very hard for Alcantara to sink a submission, but Alcantara is completely dominant here, landing punches and looking to put on the rear naked choke. He slaps it on, but Omigawa defends immediately. The pace is slowing as round two winds down, but Alcantara rides top position until the bell.

Round 3: Both men look to have tired, but this fight is Alcantara’s unless Omigawa can pull off something big. Alcantara putting his shots together more slowly, but he’s still landing with far more frequency and efficiency than Omigawa. Omigawa is wading forwardm but an exhausted Alcantara is able so far to keep threatening counters firing back. Omigawa corners Alcantara and lands a nice elbow before taking him down against the cage. Alcantara is controlling Omigawa’s posture well, with the stalemate prompting a standup with twenty seconds to go. Alcantara pushes forward with a combo before the bell. Omigawa goes for a throw and Alcantara reverses to land in mount.
