Striikeforce 38: Nah-Shon Burrell Vs. James Terry

Round 1: They touch gloves and set up in the center. Terry clips Burrell low, but he pushes past it. Burrell landing some hard punches and kicks, Terry keeping him honest with a hard overhand right. Burrell pushing forward, but Terry changes levels and hits a takedown. Terry controlling Burrell well against the cage. Burrell works to his feet, but Terry stays on him and drags him down with a single, landing in full mount. Burrell sits right out of it, but Terry is on him like glue, working to take his back near the fence. Burrell defends, but Terry is relentless, working for a single against the fence and completing it when Burrell tries and fails to hit the switch. Burrell is up, and they break briefly before the bell.

Round 2: They touch gloves again. Terry tries a high kick that Burrell sees coming and avoids. Burrell showing good instincts on the feet. Terry connects with a right hand though and drives in for the takedown, completing it against the fence. Terry working to take Burrell’s back as he stands up. Burrell gets up and fires a knee on the break. Terry doing better striking, landing a good uppercut in a combination. Burrell looks tentative, maybe worried about the wrestling. Terry with a nice straight right, Burrell counters but doesn’t follow up. Terry initiates the clinch and presses Burrell into the cage. Burrell muscles out of it and goes on the attack, landing a good knee. Terry fires back with big punches and misses. Terry shoots and briefly gets Burrell down, then drives through and makes sure he stays there until the bell. Terry lands a hard punch and Burrell stands.

Round 3: They touch gloves for the final frame. Burrell is walking Terry down, wading in with single shots. He clips Terry with a good one and pins him against the fence, firing off a few more hard punches. Burrell is stalking after Terry, but still only firing mostly single shots at a time. Terry gets comfortable for a moment, and Burrell goes after him wildly, throwing winging punches and flying knees, some of which land. They trade leg kicks, Terry having weathered the assault. Terry moving away from Burrell, not looking to engage. Burrell lands a stinging right hand that puts Terry on his heels. Burrell with another hard right. Terry hanging in there, fighting back now. He goes for the takedown, driving Burrell into the cage with thirty to go. Burrell tries for a guillotine that Terry easily avoids.
