Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, in a column he writes on a weekly basis for a Rio de Janeiro, Brazil newspaper, claimed that Antonio Silva would make his UFC debut this coming April against former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. There has been no further report from the UFC, Silva or Velasquez concerning the possible fight.
Silva’s manager, Alex Davis, would only confirm that “Bigfoot” would be fighting in April, but offered no other details on who the opponent would be. Silva, who lost his last fight to Daniel Cormier, is returning from surgery on his shoulder this past November, but is now back to training full-time.
Velasquez last competed at the first UFC on FOX card, dropping the UFC belt to Junior dos Santos in the first round. He was out of action prior to the bout with dos Santos for several months due to shoulder surgery of his own.
