Coming off of a Fight of the Night performance in his UFC debut, 27-year-old heavyweight Dave Herman will make his second promotional appearance against the aptly nicknamed Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve, a young but experienced Dutch fighter measuring 6’11” tall and reportedly weighing in above 265lbs. these days.
Though Herman, at 6’5″ and hovering above the 230lbs. range, is no dwarf, he’ll face tactical issues with Struve’s size just as all of the 23-year-old’s opponent’s have in the past, made more complicated by the fact that Struve continues to grow more adept at using his spidery frame to his advantage both standing and on the mat.
Still, training with one of the best teams in the world at Team Quest in Temecula, California, Herman is confident that he’ll be in shape and well prepared to handle Struve and the specific challenges he poses.
“He is a good striker, with a long reach and long legs,” Herman said. “But I’ve been training at Team Quest in Temecula, one of the best MMA teams in the world, and with Daniel Woirin, whom I believe is the best Muay Thai coach in the world. I will be in the best shape of my career for this fight. I will be ready.”
Herman and Struve will meet at UFC on Fuel TV: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger on February 15 at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska.
