Ross Pearson made a successful debut in the UFC’s featherweight division at UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem recently, defeating Junior Assuncao. Now, the former winner of The Ultimate Fighter is looking for another opponent that will move him up the ladder.
As for that opponent, Pearson has a fellow TUF winner in mind: Diego Brandao. Brandao won the most recent season of TUF, which featured featherweights and bantamweights for the first time.
“I was impressed with him on the show,” said Pearson, in a recent interview with ESPN.com. “He looks like he comes to finish fights. If the UFC thought that was a good match up then why not? I’m prepared to fight anyone in the division. Let’s do it.”
Pearson (13-5) wants to make a quick impact in the division, allowing him to secure a title shot with current champion Jose Aldo. Aldo has a title defense coming up against Chad Mendes on January 14 at UFC 142. The Brit also has another opponent in mind of Brandao doesn’t work out.
“‘Korean Zombie’ (Chan Sung Jung) is coming off a great win but I’ll fight whoever the UFC gives me,” Pearson said. “There’s a lot of good guys out there but I want to shoot straight to the top. I just want to keep improving and evolving and I promise I will be world champion.”
Jung knocked out former No. 1 contender Mark Hominick in his latest fight. Jung is 12-3 overall and 2-0 in his UFC career.
