Alistair Overeem has never taken anything for granted in his MMA career. Now, after knocking out Brock Lesnar Friday night in the main event of UFC 141, Overeem is headed to a title fight with UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in 2012.
Overeem, who has held the DREAM, Strikeforce and K-1 world titles, entered the Octagon for the first time against Lesnar. He left with plenty of new fans and not many critics.
“You always have to prove a point,” said Overeem at the post-fight press conference (thanks to MMAJunkie.com for transcribing). “For some people, they don’t have to do it that much, but I’m the type that my road to success has been long. But the thing is, if you keep achieving good things and just keep knocking people out, you’re going to get there.”
There for Overeem is a championship match next year after dos Santos has fully healed from knee surgery. For complete results from UFC 141, click here.
