Nate Diaz picked up one of the most complete and impressive victories of his career Friday night when he earned a decision over Donald Cerrone in the co-main event of UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem. Now, the brother of UFC welterweight championship contender Nick Diaz, is looking for his opportunity.
“I hope I’m like getting a No. 1 contenders spot or a title shot because I ain’t trying to play around with these funny fights no more,” Diaz told UFC.com. “I’ve been fighting for too long and I want to fight the best guys, and you know, I think I deserve, I want to get what I deserve out of this.”
Currently, UFC 155-pound champ Frankie Edgar is set to meet Benson Henderson in 2012 in Japan. The lightweight division is one of the deepest in the UFC, but Diaz showed what he is capable of by stopping the red-shot Cerrone.
“I felt alright,” said Diaz, of his war with Cerrone. “He knocked me down with some kicks and I felt that was kind of making me look bad, but I was just trying to go out there and fight.”
