UFC 141: Ross Pearson Vs. Junior Assuncao

Round 1: Pearson, keeping his distance, hits an inside leg kick. Assuncao returns. Assuncao times a takedown perfectly and hits it with ease, dumping Pearson to the mat. Pearson getting to his feet, but Assuncao is all over him. Pearson frees himself and comes after Assuncao swinging. Assuncao standing sort of like Lyoto Machida, but it’s working pretty well for him. He times a kick again and grabs hold of Pearson. Pearson doing better to keep on his feet, and Assuncao eventually disengages. Pearson chasing after Assuncao, but having a hard time touching him. Assuncao’s awkward movement is giving Pearson fits, but the Brit tags Assuncao up after he fails on a takedown. Assuncao lands a nice three-piece. Pearson chases Assuncao until the bell.

Round 2: Pearson coming out more aggressive, but he eats a body kick. Assuncao drops for the takedown and gets it in short order. Pearson pops right up, Assuncao keeps hold of him but he eventually breaks free. They both land left hooks before Assuncao drives for the takedown again. Assuncao continually working for the takedown. Pearson sprawls and gets top position, but backs out to work the stand up. Assuncao with a right hand. Assuncao goes for the takedown again, pressing Pearson into the fence. Pearson shakes him off and tries for a head kick that glances off Assuncao’s arms. Pearson goes hard to the body and then sits Junior down with a stiff jab. Pearson is dogging Assuncao now, having finally pinned him down, battering him to the head and body with punches and knees. Assuncao tying him up now though, slowing his assault. Pearson working with knees, but Assuncao breaks free. They exchange briefly and Assuncao goes back in for the takedown. Pearson lands a slick trip, but Assuncao grabs his leg and returns the favor, eating an elbow in order to plant Pearson on his back. Pearson working elbows from the bottom and he gets to his feet right before the bell.

Round 3: Assuncao catches the first kick Pearson throws to take him down. Assuncao is all over him, he takes his back with one hook. Assuncao tries for a few submissions, but Pearson avoids them all and gets to his feet. Assuncao lands a hard left and immediately grabs hold of Pearson again, grating him into the fence. Pearson gets in a few good digs against the fence, and eventually works free. Assuncao dives right back in for the takedown. Pearson hammers Assuncao with a hard leg kick after breaking away. He times a good knee to Assuncao’s face as he dives in for another takedown. Pearson pressing Assuncao into the fence now, they both land good shots before breaking. Pearson lands a head kick and a good knee before Assuncao goes back in for the takedown. Pearson looking to hit the takedown, but he breaks away and starts to pour it on Assuncao, dogging him with a volley of strikes. Assuncao goes for the takedown again, holding Pearson into the fence until the bell.
