As if two fighters like Donald Cerrone and Nate Diaz really needed more motivation to show up and throw down tomorrow night, the two lightweights got into a minor altercation at yesterday’s UFC 141 pre-fight press conference after Cowboy got a little too close for Diaz’s comfort.
“He was trying to tip his hat into my face and I’m no punk who’ll take that,” Diaz said. “He was mumbling some stupid crap about me needing to bring it. He don’t even believe what he’s saying. He’s trying to find confidence from somewhere. I’ll knock something else off his head Friday.”
After Diaz tipped his hat off and shoved him, Cowboy was clearly working hard to restrain himself. He managed to take it in stride although he was visibly angered, opting to channel that feeling into their battle tomorrow.
“I’m not getting paid to fight today. I get paid on Friday when it counts,” said Cerrone. “Let’s see if he’s brave enough to swat my hat off on Friday. Let’s see if he even comes close. Today, I acted like a professional. Friday, I’m gonna make him pay.”
Cerrone and Diaz will meet in the co-main event of UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem tomorrow night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
