Donald Cerrone will be facing not only a similarly styled fighter as himself this Friday, but a similarly minded one as well. Cowboy is taking on Nate Diaz, the surly but technical fighter from Stockton who will take on anyone, anytime, anywhere – which is why Cerrone is very much looking forward to taking him on.
“Good thing about Nate is, rain, hail or shine, he’s coming to fight,” said Cowboy in a recent interview with Sherdog. “That’s the good thing about the Diaz brothers. They come to fight. They are game dudes. … This fight is gonna be one of those fights that people get up out of their chairs and say, ‘Damn, them motherf****ers threw down.'”
When asked by Sherdog where he felt he had a serious edge over Diaz in competition, Cowboy admitted that he isn’t sure if he does.
“I don’t know about overwhelming edge. Like I said, the dude is game. When you fight someone game – it’s hard to take someone like that into deep water,” he said. “He’s good on the ground, good standing. So, wherever the fight goes, it’s gonna be a son of a b****. So, do I have an edge anywhere? I don’t know. I can’t answer that until I’m in there and I actually feel what’s going on. Where am I looking at it to go? I think it’s going to stay on the feet most of the fight, I really do. He comes and wants to fight, talk s*** back and forth. It’s gonna be good man, I’m super excited.”
Cerrone and Diaz will face off Friday night in the co-main event of UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem, which goes down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
