Georges St-Pierre: UFC welterweight champion, one of the baddest men and best athletes on the planet, number two ranked pound-for-pound fighter, acrophobe.
At least, according to Team Greg Jackson fighter Leonard Garcia, who recently recounted to FightHubTV the story of the first time that he met GSP, when the 170lbs. kingpin struggled running in the New Mexico mountains – not because of the affect of altitude on his conditioning, but because of the height.
“The first time I met Georges, we went on a run in the mountains and Georges is afraid of heights. Nobody knows this, but he’s like a girl when it comes to heights,” said Garcia. “Part of the run takes us on the edge of the mountain where you can safely run but, right off the edge is a drop. He’s behind me and he’s running and he’s calling my name and I was like, ‘Why’s he calling me?’ And he was like ‘Hey man, can I grab the back of your shirt while we run?’ I was like, ‘What, why do you want to grab the back of my shirt while we run?’ He was trying to tell me, ‘The height! The height!’ … It’s a funny story, he was holding on to the back of my shirt while we were running and he’s like, ‘Don’t tell nobody about this,’ and here I am doing an interview about it.”
