UFC on Fuel TV 1 continues to materialize, as the UFC has announced the addition of undefeated heavyweights Stipe Miocic and Philip De Fries to the card.
29-year-old Ohioan Stipe Miocic likes to channel his MMA hero, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic when he fights, as evidenced by his 7-0 record, which shows five victories by KO/TKO, one by submission due to leg kicks and one decision. Sporting similar trunks to his Croatian idol, Miocic made his UFC debut this past October at UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard 3, taking on heavyweight tank Joey Beltran. Miocic handled the ever-durable Beltran well, looking about as good as anyone can against the fighter who refuses to take damage, no matter how many times he gets hit. The result was a unanimous decision victory in his UFC debut, which he’ll look to build on against De Fries.
Aside from one No Contest due to illegal strikes, De Fries’ record is equally unblemished, with the 25-year-old Brit sporting a career mark of 8-0. Also similarly to Miocic, De Fries finished all of his pre-UFC fights – though he did so via submission, every time – and earned a unanimous decision in his promotional debut. De Fries fought in the promotion for the first time at UFC 138: Leben vs. Muñoz, taking on countryman Rob Broughton, a fighter who, much like Joey Beltran, walks through the heaviest of shots with little acknowledgement.
UFC on Fuel TV 1 goes down on February 15 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
