The UFC has found a replacement for Erik Koch, signing Ricardo Lamas to meet Dustin Poirier at UFC 143 on February 4 from Las Vegas, Nevada. Koch was injured recently and forced to pull out of the planned fight.
UFC 143 will be highlighted by Nate Diaz vs. Carlos Condit for the interim UFC welterweight title. It would seem likely that the Lamas-Poirier bout gets fitted on the preliminary card for the night.
“Lamas is coming off a knockout victory followed by a Submission of the Night win in his last two spectacular outings,” UFC president Dana White said. “While Poirier is a highly-touted power-punching prospect looking to make his case for a host at the title.”
Lamas (11-2) submitted Cub Swanson earlier this year at UFC on FOX 1: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos. Since dropping to 145 pounds, he is 2-0.
Poirier holds a perfect 3-0 mark since moving to the featherweight division. The 22-year-old earned a win of his own at UFC on FOX 1, downing Pablo Garza via submission.
