As part of a string of fighters who pulled out of the impending UFC 142 fight card, Stanislav Nedkov announced his withdrawal from a light heavyweight bout against Fabio Maldonado due to visa issues which would prevent him from traveling to Brazil, where the fight card will take place.
The UFC, as usual, has showed deft maneuvering skills in filling all of the empty spots created on the fight card, plugging the last hole today by replacing Nedkov with Brazilian newcomer Caio Magalhaes.
Undefeated 24-year-old Caio “Hellboy” Magalhaes will look to continue his five-fight winning streak when he takes on fellow Brazilian Maldonado at UFC 142. The Nova Uniao product has picked up two of his career wins by split decision, one by TKO and two by submission. He last competed on December 2, taking out Ismael de Jesus via split decision at Shooto – Brazil 27.
Seasoned 18-4 competitor Fabio Maldonado will be competing in his third UFC fight Magalhaes, having gone 1-1 in the promotion, dropping a decision to Kyle Kingsbury in his most recent outing and knocking out James McSweeney in his UFC debut.
UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes goes down on January 14 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and will feature a featherweight title fight between champ Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes.
