Video: Scott Coker Talks Cyborg-Rousey, Wants Melendez-Thomson III

Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal went down last night, hardly receiving the attention it deserved for featuring two title defenses by the consensus number two lightweight and the hands-down best women’s mixed martial artist.

Following the event, which saw Gilbert Melendez hold back Jorge Masvidal over five rounds and Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos absolutely demolish Hiroko Yamanaka, most of the conversation centered around what comes next for both champions, now that they finds themselves again positioned without any clear contenders to their thrones and few challenges approaching on the horizon.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker spoke with MMAWeekly last night on those subjects, expressing interest in putting together Melendez-Josh Thomson III, even though The Punk is coming off of a loss and has been out of action now for approaching two years, and holding off on Cyborg-Ronda Rousey so that Rousey can get in more fights at 135, with a nebulous talent search being put on in Russia and Holland to presumably bring in fresh female contenders.
