Strikeforce 37: Gegard Mousasi Vs. Ovince St-Preux

Round 1: No glove touch to kick off this light heavyweight contest. St-Preux working his range early on, flicking out a pair of kicks and circling away from Mousasi. Mousasi returns with a hard right body kick. Mouasi taking his time and stalking OSP, who catches him with a good body kick. Mousasi goes on the charge with a hard, multi-punch combination. Mousasi backs OSP into the cage again and swarms him with punches. Mousasi catches a kick and promptly deposits OSP onto the mat, on his back. Mousasi swinging wild from the guard, tagging OSP with some big punches. OSP getting worked on the mat as Mousasi passes to side control. Mousasi traps OSP’s right arm briefly in a modified crucifix, but OSP defends and almost reverses the position until Mousasi muscles him back down. Mousasi slaps on a kimura and looks to have it finished, but OSP powers out of it and winds up in top position. OSP passes to mount, but he’s off-balance and Mousasi reverses him, fully applying the mounted crucifix and pounding away until the bell.

Round 2: OSP opens up with a head kick that Mosusasi blocks. OSP shoots hard for the takedown but Mousasi defends deftly and hits a trip on Mousasi afterward, planting him on his back against the cage. Mousasi stacking St-Preux in an attempt to pass guard; he moves to half guard, working short punches and elbows. Mousasi looking to isolate an arm, but when he can’t get it, he just settles back into punching St-Preux’s face. The ref stands them up, despite Mousasi’s consistent work rate. Mousasi with a leg kick. OSP lunges in witha hard knee that Mousasi catches and uses to briefly take St-Preux down. They scramble, with OSP hitting a switch at one point and putting Mousasi on his back, eventually moving to side control. Mousasi fights to his feet without taking any damage. They both miss on head kicks and Mousasi sprawls out of a takedown before the bell.

Round 3: OSP tries the lunging knee again, allowing Mousasi to gtab hold of him and turn him into the cage. Mousasi eventually trips OSP to the mat, trying to take his back as he stands up. OSP avoids and turns into Mousasi searching for the takedown. St-Preux drags Mousasi down and lands in side control again. OSP moves to full mount, holding the position even through Mousasi’s bucking to land a few punches. Mousasi doesn’t take much damage before scrambling out and to his feet. Mousasi drives OSP across the cage to drag him to the mat and take his back. OSP stands, Mousasi still on his back. Mousasi forces the scramble and winds up on top of OSP against the cage. Mousasi in half guard. OSP scrambles, briefly getting his back taken before winding up on top of Mousasi. Mousasi fights to his knees, OSP puts on a d’arce, but the bell rings before he can take it anywhere.
