UFC president Dana White disclosed details of Strikeforce’s future Saturday night following the UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida press conference. Strikeforce, as it stands right now, will continue operating for the immediate future.
That means all fighters currently in Strikeforce will remain there, including Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gilbert Melendez. Melendez will main event the next Strikeforce card against Jorge Masvidal this coming Saturday night.
“Gilbert Melendez and all the guys that are in the Strikeforce show and with Showtime, I will make fights (for them),” said White in an interview with MMAWeekly.com. “They will be happy to be there. Believe me, I got this thing worked out. It’s going to be good for everybody. It’s going to be good for the fighters, it’s going to be good for Showtime, and it’s going to be good for Showtime.”
White also said Scott Coker will continue to be involved in Strikeforce affairs going forward, and that they have the ability for co-promotion between Strikeforce and the UFC going forward.
