With one show set for Brazil next month, the UFC is already making plans to return to South America in May, according to UFC president Dana White. UFC 143: Aldo vs. Mendes is set for January 14 from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“Right now, what I know, we’ve got two coming up,” White said at the UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida post-fight press conference Saturday night. “We’re gonna do Rio and probably another one in May.”
The UFC would like to hold the May card in a stadium-style arena, allowing it to hold as many people as April’s event from Toronto’s Rogers Centre did. If that is the case, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is a likely choice for the main event, as the long-time champion is from Brazil and is currently rehabbing a shoulder injury.
White also said he is flying to Brazil on Monday to begin filming a Brazilian version of The Ultimate Fighter. TUF Brazil will mark the first international version of the reality show.
