UFC 140: Mark Bocek Vs. Nik Lentz

Round 1: Lentz gets off first with a head kick, but Bocek returns fire with a nice right hand and a knee. Bocek closes the distance, landing knees and punches to the body while looking for the takedown. Bocek hits a slick takedown and Lentz threatens with a guillotine briefly. Bocek defends the initial attempt, but Lentz goes for it again. Bocek shakes free by standing up and dropping Lentz down and he goes back to work on the mat, trying to pass Lentz’s guard. Bocek is controlling the action so far, but Lentz is doing well to keep him from setting up subs or put together much ground and pound. Bocek manages to pass to side control, but Lentz recovers half guard quickly. Bocek lands a few hard strikes on the ground before the end of the round.

Round 2: Lentz stuffs a takedown to start. Bocek slips on a kick, but ends up going for a deep single. Lentz locks his legs together and defends for a time, but Bocek has him over his head and eventually hits the takedown. Bocek is dominating Lentz on the ground, but hasn’t been able so far to mount very damaging offense; the fighters are warned to work. Lentz goes for the guillotine again and it’s deep, but Bocek defends. The action is halted so that Bocek can pull up his pants, Lentz misunderstands and goes for a punch. No harm no foul, they end the round standing.

Round 3: Bocek goes for the shot early and completes it, avoiding Lentz’s guillotine attempt. Bocek is working hard to pass guard, but he can’t and Lentz fights to his feet. Lentz lands a nice lead uppercut. Chants of “Bocek” sound through the crowd as the Canadian lightweight drops for the takedown and completes it. Bocek avoids the guillotine again and goes to work with short ground and pound. Bocek passes briefly, but Lentz hip escapes and recovers guard. Bocek turning up his work rate as the round winds down, firing off ground and pound more frequently. Bocek backs out of guard and throws an axe kick to the body, then another body kick when Lentz gets to his feet.
