Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz will face fellow MMA veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira this Saturday in what will very likely be one of the last fights in his storied career. Though the end is in sight for Ortiz, he has no interest in taking on easy competition to increase his chances of closing his career on a high note, which is why he’s excited about facing Lil’ Nog, a fighter for whom he has much respect.
“I think Phil Davis showed the recipe to beat Lil’ Nog, but that’s very tough. It’s very tough to beat Lil’ Nog, he’s a very tough opponent,” Ortiz recently told FightHubTV. “Being a black belt in jiu-jitsu, being a Golden Gloves boxer, his takedown defense is really good – he and his brother are very dangerous. Being from Black House, of course, they train with world champions. They train with Anderson Silva, Machida – they’re one of the biggest, best gyms in the world right now. My hands are full. I believe it’s just one of those things, I have to go in with heart and determination to get my hand raised. I know what I need to do.”
Ortiz also said that he’s hoping to pick up his third straight fight night bonus, specifically the Knockout of the Night bonus to complete the trifecta.
“I got Submission of the Night against Ryan Bader, I got Fight of the Night against Rashad ten days later – now, let’s look for Knockout of the Night against Lil’ Nog,” he said.
Ortiz and Nogueira will square off at UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida this Saturday at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Check out a video of Ortiz training in preparation of facing Lil’ Nog below, also courtesy FightHub.
