UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is on deck to face off against Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida this Saturday night in the main event of UFC 140, but he’s still keeping his eye on the rest of the light heavyweight landscape, scoping out future opponents.
It was recently announced by the UFC that Jones’ arch-rival and top contender Rashad Evans will be taking on Phil Davis in the main event of UFC on Fox 2 in late January. Evans has been matched up against his former training partner Jones on more than one occasion, but has seen the bouts dematerialize as a result of injury, his or otherwise.
Though their fights continue to fall through, Jones and Evans keep their feud alive by taking shots at each other when they get the opportunity, as Jones did during an appearance on MMAFighting’s The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani when asked his opinion on the Evans-Davis match up.
“It’s an interesting fight,” Jones said of the fight. “I’ll go with Rashad because of the experience factor. But Phil Davis can win more than he realizes, he has to be comfortable striking. I won’t say too much because I have my own ideas on how to beat Rashad, but, I don’t think Rashad has a chin at all. Trust me Rashad does not have chin. But it will be a closer fight than people will realize.”
UFC 140: Jones vs. Evans goes down this Saturday night from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. FightLine will be back with live, ongoing coverage of the event on the night.
