UFC president Dana White announced at the beginning of this latest run of The Ultimate Fighter that performance bonuses in the amount of $25,000 would be awarded to the superlative fighters of the season for the first time ever; winners would be announced upon the show’s conclusion and would be chosen by the fans.
Keeping with the standard fight night bonuses handed out by the UFC, the categories for the bonuses were best knockout, submission and fight.
Team Mayhem’s John Dodson was chosen as the winner of the best knockout for his second-round starching of teammate Johnny Bedford in the bantamweight semi-finals. The pint-sized ninja went on to win the six-figure contract by taking out TJ Dillashaw last Saturday at the TUF 14 Finale via first-round knockout, also earning a Knockout of the Night bonus for that contest.
Another Team Mayhem fighter was voted to have the best submission of the season, with Dennis Bermudez getting the bonus for finally forcing Akira Corassani to tap beyond a shadow of a doubt with guillotine choke in the first round of their featherweight battle. Bermudez went on to lose by submission to Diego Brandao in the finals.
Finally, bantamweights Dustin Pague and Louis Gaudinot were voted to have the best fight for their quarterfinal match-up, which eventually saw Pague win the back-and-forth affair via submission. Both Pague and Gaudinot were defeated at the TUF 14 Finale, losing to John Albert and Johnny Bedford, respectively.
