According to a report by MMAFighting.com, Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold’s first title defense will come against Keith Jardine. Earlier reports had Rockhold facing Tim Kennedy for the 185-pound title, but an injury to Kennedy knocked him out.
Rockhold-Jardine is scheduled for January 7 at a yet-to-be-announced Strikeforce event from Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card is expected to air on Showtime, which Rockhold and Jardine would be part of, likely as the main event.
Rockhold took the Strikeforce title from Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza back in September, scoring his seventh straight victory. Rockhold currently holds a record of 8-1, including a 7-0 mark in Strikeforce.
Jardine is a former UFC veteran who is 17-9-2 in his career. He fought to a draw with Gegard Mousasi this past April after signing with Strikeforce.
