Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal is currently helping prepare Lyoto Machida for his upcoming UFC light heavyweight title fight against Jon Jones. Lawal, however, is looking at his own return very soon.
Lawal recently told Tatame.com that he is looking to fight for Strikeforce on January 7, but an opponent is not known at this time. Lawal is seeking a fight with Rafael Cavalcante, who defeated him in 2010 and claimed the Strikeforce 205-pound title.
“I wanna fight him again because now I’m healthier,” Lawal said. “Before, when I fought him I had no meniscus; I had no stability on my knees. I fought him, I was winning, he caught me with a knee and then that’s it. But now, I’m ready.”
Lawal defeated Roger Gracie this past September after recovering from knee surgery. The former NCAA Div. I All-American is 8-1 in his career with six knockout victories.
As for a career in the UFC, Lawal said his contract with Strikeforce ends in February, adding, “I don’t know what’s gonna happen because Strikeforce wants me around next year, so I don’t know. I don’t know what’s happening; no one knows what’s happening.”
