Aside from Chael Sonnen and Dan Henderson, there aren’t too many fighters beating down Anderson Silva’s door, looking for a title shot. You can now count English fighter Michael Bisping among those few who will call for a chance against The Spider, as he recently told FightHubTV that he’d like to fight Silva and believes he has what it takes to defeat him.
“I definitely fancy my chances, I’m gonna say that,” Bisping said. “I wanna fight him, I wanna fight for the title. Anderson Silva’s a fantastic fighter and I’ve got nothing but respect for him. He’s the greatest fighter on the planet right now, but I want my shot. I want my shot at him. I believe I’ve earned it. Fingers crossed, I take Miller out of the way, get him out of the way and get my opportunity.”
Bisping is set to meet his opposing TUF 14 coach Jason “Mayhem” Miller this weekend in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale; though his focus has been on preparing for Mayhem, Bisping can’t help but to size up Silva and measure his chances against the champ.
“I actually feel I match up well with him. I think my striking – Anderson finishes guys better than I do, I can’t argue with that – but I think my striking matches up well with him,” he asserted. “I’m pretty elusive. I do a lot of sparring – I love to spar – and I very rarely get hit. I’m pretty elusive. I’m fast, I work good takedowns, I could take him to the ground if I needed to. Easier said than done though. It’s Anderson Silva. I’m sure a lot of people have gone in there with the same mindset and the same confidence and they end up knocked out on the end of some highlight reel knockout. I want my shot though, I want to give it a try. I feel I can do it, but we’ll see what happens on the night.”
Before he can get at Silva, Bisping will have to beat Miller, whom he meets this Saturday night at the Palms in Las Vegas. How do you think Bisping does against Silva? Let us know in the comments section.
