After being cut from the UFC thanks to the Golden Glory/UFC conflict, Norwegian heavyweight battler Jon Olav Einemo will finally return to the promotion this January to face Mike Russow.
MMAFighting reports that Einemo will get his second shot in the UFC on January 28 as part of the UFC on Fox 2 fight card.
One of the world’s most decorated and respected grapplers, the 35-year-old Einemo made his UFC debut at UFC 131 last June against Dave Herman; Einemo would lose the bout via TKO, but did enough over two rounds to make the bout the Fight of the Night. The 6-2 fighter was cut before he got another chance in the UFC as a result of his management/training team Golden Glory’s refusal to accept fighter payments on the UFC’s terms. How this was all resolved is currently unknown, but Einemo will finally get his second fight with the UFC.
He’ll be taking on 14-1 Mike Russow, who, despite having a less than chiseled physique, has gone unbeaten in ten straight fights, taking out Justin McCully, Todd Duffee and Jon Madsen during his tenure with the UFC.
UFC on Fox 2 will take place on January 28 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
