Riding a five-fight winning streak punctuated by a first round knockout win over previous top contender Jake Shields, Jake Ellenberger is officially on a roll and likely only one or two big wins away from fighting for the title. The 26-year-old has gone 26-5 as a pro and 5-1 in the UFC, his only loss in the promotion a controversial split decision to Carlos Condit; he owns seventeen wins by KO/TKO and five by submission and believes strongly in his chances against current welterweight top dog Georges St-Pierre.
As he recently told TatameTV:
“I think [my style] is definitely one to give him more trouble than a lot in the past. He’s one of the best fighters in this sport. I definitely have to be prepared and I’ve dedicated by life to that: to training, to doing everything I have to do – put myself in bad situations and as uncomfortable as a I can – to just keep improving on things I’m weaker at or not as strong at to become more well-rounded. I definitely believe that I can beat GSP. I think I can beat anybody in my weight class in the world. I just have to continue to stay focused.”
