Maiquel Falcao, who competed for the UFC and was recently signed by Bellator to fight in the middleweight division, suffered a heart attack this past weekend. Falcao is currently at a hospital in Brazil awaiting a cardiac catheterization and an angiogram to update his condition.
“His wife told me he suddenly suffered from a huge pain in the chest, and when they got into the hospital the doctors concluded he had a myocardial infarction,” said Falcao’s manager, Marcelo Brigadeiro, in an interview with Sherdog.com. “The procedure is expected to happen late this Wednesday. If Falcao didn’t go to the hospital as fast as he did, he would have died.”
Falcao (28-4) was victorious in his UFC debut over Gerald Harris last November, but was let go by the company after legal issues from a 2002 assault charge were made public. Bellator inked him to a contact this past October, but the 30-year-old had yet to have a fight scheduled with them.
