It was announced today that The Ultimate Fighter 3 middleweight winner Kendall Grove and Japanese fan-favorite battler Ikuhisa Minowa will meet in a middleweight contest in the main event of the reincarnated ProElite promotion’s third event.
After winning TUF 3, Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove got his UFC career off on the right foot, submitting Chris Price and Alan Belcher consecutively before going on a two-fight skid that would begin the back and forth pattern which would define his UFC career. Grove holds UFC victories over the likes of Evan Tanner, Jake Rosholt and Goran Reljic and promotional losses to Patrick Cote, Jorge Rivera, Ricardo Almeida, Mark Muñoz, Demian Maia and Tim Boetsch. Following consecutive defeats to Maia and Boetsch, Grove was cut from the UFC. He made his first post-UFC appearance at ProElite 1 this past August, taking a submission victory over Joe Riggs.
35-year-old Japanese fighter Ikuhisa Minowa is a veteran of over ninety professional fights, becoming renowned for his frequent involvement in “freakshow” matches. Minowaman has competed in over twenty open weight matches and, during his time in Pride, took on the likes of Wanderlei Silva, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic. The catch wrestling expert sports a record of 51-32-8 and is currently riding a four-fight winning streak over unheralded competition.
ProElite 3 goes down on January 21 from the Neil Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
