It may not have been treated with the soaring glory that used to surround a Fedor fight, but The Last Emperor picked up his first win since 2009 last night in his home country of Russia, taking a unanimous decision over seasoned vet Jeff Monson.
Emelianenko dominated “The Snowman” from start to finish in a fairly ho-hum three-rounder. Emelianenko was able to hurt Monson on the feet and avoid his attempts at taking the fight to the mat; he was unable to finish the American anarchist, but did enough to clearly take home the unanimous decision. Though perhaps not a highlight in the Russian’s storied career, Emelianenko’s win over Monson is an important one for him, as it snaps the three-fight losing streak that saw him cut from Strikeforce. The 35-year-old now sports a career record of 33-4 and 1 No Contest; Monson falls to 43-13 in defeat.
